VERY YELLOW 2002

It’s raining custard cats and dandelion dogs in the land of Yellow. A Royal Servant wakes his King and Queen with the early morning news- TODAY WILL BE ANOTHER VERY YELLOW DAY! Another banana butterscotch breakfast, another egg –lollypop lunch box, another lazy lemon teatime. From behind the sunflower wallpaper of their picture pancake palace, they begin to wonder what lies beyond the double yellow lines of their buttercup kingdom.

Very Yellow creates a bright, surreal and quirky world, which is infiltrated by imposter shades transforming the stage into a riot of color and activity played out to a medley of teasing tunes and songs. Yolande Snaith makes evocative theatredance for children, inspired by children’s classics, nonsense rhymes, fairy tales and magical settings. Her work for younger audiences is attuned to a child’s perspective of the world, and is highly responsive to the power of young imaginations. She creates worlds that are dreamlike, funny, colorful, unpredictable and captivating.

“A four-course meal of colorful nonsense and mischief.”

Very Yellow was funded by the Arts Council Of England, and commissioned by The Place Theatre, The South Bank Centre, Warwick Arts Centre, and Dance East. The piece toured to family audiences in a diverse range of venues, from major theatres and art centers, to schools and village halls throughout the UK in 2002.

PRESS:

“Very Yellow is a magical vision which blurs the line between visual art and children’s theatre in a wholly satisfying way”
