Hosted by a mischievous ringmaster garbed in a trailing robe and gold platform boots, Holy Jig’n Caper is a colorful and comic game of dances and scenarios, played out by a collection of oddly attired personas, each with their own habits and mannerisms. Borrowed from the wealth of social and cultural dance forms throughout history, subverted gestures and nifty moves are swept along with wild movement and song; baroque courtly dance meets ballroom, lindy hop, and religious trance dance.
“Whirling and twirling to the hurdy gurdy in the ballroom of the royal Festival Hall, London.”
Holy Jig’n Caper was as a site-specific piece, with live music, in collaboration with composer Stevie Wishart and her ensemble ‘Sinfonye’. The piece was commissioned by the South Bank Centre and the Greenwich Festival, for performances in the Ballrooms of the Royal Festival Hall, and Greenwich Dance Agency.
